Today was a big day at the Phelps house: we said goodbye to our house and our stuff. Let me clarify.
First: we signed and sent all the closing papers on the sale of our house making it officially sold!!! This is such a relief. While the house has been a great investment and a blessing we are relieved not to have to worry about it any more. While I still have the occasional pangs of dissapointment when I think about our beautiful house nestled in the mountains of Utah, where we would live a happy, quiet, safe, normal life. On the other hand I know it wouldn't take long for my feet to itchy for a new country, language and experience. The life we have chosen certainly has it benefits and disavantanges, like any, I suppose.
Monumental step number 2? The movers came today, packed up and moved out our boat shipment. It was really rather painless. We just put all the stuff that needed to go in a corner of the apartment. The moving guys came as I sat at the couch with a bowl of cereal and my Arabic workbook. They were in and out in an hour. Cool! That's the way to move. Sadly, unpacking won't be so enjoyable.
Now with so much of our stuff it is starting to feel like we are really leaving. The moment hit home when I took all of our pictures and postcards down off the fridge and the walls. It's amazing how little things like that make you feel like you are home.
