Due to the Islamic holiday, Eid al-Fitr, which occurs at the end of Ramadan, I didn't have class today. While I am working hard to learn Arabic this was a welcome day off. Well, I don't think I could actually call it a "day off". I have been running about doing pre-departure errands.
Tomorrow I am leaving on a mini-immersion trip to Dearborn, Michigan. This region is located in the metropolitan Detroit area and is home to a large Arab population there and so I arranged for my class and a couple others in the Arabic department to head there for a week. We're hoping to make it to places like the Islamic Centre of America, the Arab American National Museum and the Dearborn mosque (which is the largest in North America). I am really excited.
