Dan has been busy this week writing a series of tests to measure his abilities. His first was a language proficiency test with some fancy acronym for a name. They had everyone do things from memorizing words to a fake language in 4 minutes, guess word meanings and I can't remember the rest. The good news is that out of 80 Dan scored 73, which is in the 98% percentile!!! What this means is that they would more confident in Dan's ability to learn a hard language and that yes, he is awesome!
As cool as that is and as I much as I like to brag, the better news came from his Arabic test. Daniel's been apprehensive about this test for a few reasons:
1) It's been a long time since he's studied or even thought about Arabic
2) If he didn't do well enough he would require additional training that would exclude us from some of the posts we want
3) If he did too well that would make him a better candidate for posts that require no additional training (ie. Saudi Arabia).
Basically, the ideal outcome would be one where they would decide that he needs like a month or two refresher instead of no language training or like 6+ months.
Well, yet again my man did not disapoint he scored a 1+ in speaking and a 1 in reading. (Explaination: it is a 4 pt scale with a 4 being native-like abilities; posts we are hoping for like Damascus are 2/1. Therefore, this score means that Dan would need a brush up on speaking and is fine with his reading.)
Long story short we were thrilled!
Dan is in "the woods" for the next couple days for leadership training in a cabin in West Virginia. I miss our nightly chats but I hope he's having fun.
Until next time,
~Katie
